Measuring Anharmonicity in Large Amplitude Pendulum - The anharmonicity of a large amplitude pendulum is investigated experimentally. A novel technique that allows the detection of high Fourier components as a function of the amplitudes for large amplitudes, close to 180°, was developed. The presence of the first two (odd) harmonics was detected and the variations of their corresponding Fourier coefficients with amplitude were studied. The experimental setup is inexpensive and simple to implement. The presence of high Fourier components in the motion of large amplitude pendulum is clearly observed.
